The approach, called before-after credit, involves supporting entrepreneurs from project conception to activity consolidation, ensuring optimal use of financial resources. It's worth noting that the fisheries sector is a significant contributor to Gabon's economy, representing 1.5% of the country's GDP.Recent initiatives, such as a partnership between Gabon and Turkish investors to establish a fish processing company, Bon Gabon, aim to boost the sector's growth and industrialization.
A key economic pillar of the country, the fisheries sector faces significant difficulties in accessing financing, particularly due to the interest rates charged by conventional banks, which can reach 35% to 40%. With this credit facility, the BCEG is providing financing at a fixed rate of 6%, well below market standards.By providing financing at a lower interest rate, the BCEG's initiative can help stimulate growth and development in the fisheries sector, which is a crucial economic pillar for the countryAccording to the terms of the contract, the BCEG will also offer a comprehensive support package, including:Start-up kits, Management training,Personalized financial monitoring, Integration into formal channels,A dedicated support workshop for SMEs.
This approach is part of the government's commitment to building a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem, generating sustainable jobs, and putting Gabon on a path to inclusive growth. Recall that the BCEG, with a capital of 17 billion FCFA and owned by institutions and private actors, was created to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), artisans, traders, and other entrepreneurs. By facilitating access to credit and supporting the structuring of income-generating activities, the BCEG aims to promote the progressive formalization of the informal economy.
