Among these events are the 154th session of the World Health Organization's (WHO) Executive Board in Geneva. There's also the International Chocolate and Pastry Salon in Vannes, France. Additionally, the Sino-African Cooperation Forum in Beijing and Asia Expo 2024 in Russia .
The Sino-African Cooperation Forum held in Beijing from September 4 to 6, 2024, brought together nearly 50 African leaders, including presidents, one of whom was Cameroonian President Paul Biya.During this forum, 50 billion dollars were promised by Beijing to support African countries over a period of three years.During this summit, Cameroon aimed to strengthen its cooperation with China in several areas, including politics, economy, and trade. China is among the countries that supply Cameroon with imported products such as herbicides, tires, and tiles.
Cameroon and China have a long history of diplomatic relations, dating back to 1971. Their bilateral cooperation has expanded over the years to include key areas like commerce, industrial investments, agriculture, health, infrastructure development, and defense .The economic ties between Cameroon and China are particularly strong, with China being Cameroon's largest trading partner. In 2018, China became Cameroon's primary supplier, with imports totaling $1 billion, while Cameroon's exports to China were valued at $150 million .China remains a key strategic partner for Cameroon, with major projects such as the new headquarters of the National Assembly in Yaounde, the Yaounde multi-purpose sports palace, the Kribi deep water port, and the Yaounde gynecological and obstetric hospital.Pursuing similar objectives, Cameroon attended the Asia Expo 2024 in Russia.
Still with the aim of showcasing Cameroon's expertise and seeking partnerships and investors, Cameroon took part in the International Chocolate and Pastry Salon in Vannes, France, led by the Minister of Trade.At this 20th edition, representatives of the processing industry came to promote the quality and expertise of Cameroon in terms of chocolate production.
Cameroon was represented by the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Malachie Manaouda, at the 154th session of the World Health Organization's (WHO) Executive Board in Geneva .During this executive health council in Geneva, Cameroon advocated for increased funding for more health and peace initiatives.According to the Minister of Public Health, Cameroon's implementation model for the Global Health for Peace Initiative could be an opportunity for the country to accelerate the implementation of the 2021-2025 National Community Health Strategy.
These events and summits that Cameroon attended in 2024 abroad mark significant milestones in the country's bilateral relations with its partners.These events strengthen the economic, political, and cultural ties between Cameroon and its partners, particularly China, France, and other African countries. They also demonstrate Cameroon's commitment to promoting international cooperation and strengthening its presence on the global stage.
