The President of the Republic ,Paul Biya signed a decree on December 2, 2024, authorizing the Minister of Economy to enter into a loan agreement with China Citic Bank Corporation LTD, to expand its video surveillance system nation wide.

The intelligent video surveillance system aims to equip Cameroonian cities with a device to more effectively combat insecurity. The project also encompasses vulnerable areas prone to Boko Haram attacks in the Far North region. The first phase of the project, funded to the tune of 46 billion CFA francs by the Bank of China, officially allowed for the installation of over 1,000 video surveillance cameras in certain cities across the country. These installations were complemented by 2,000 portable transmitter and receiver posts, aimed at ensuring better surveillance of the territory by Cameroonian defense forces. This first phase also saw the creation of command centers in Yaoundé and Douala, under the supervision of the Delegation General for national security(DGSN), with the goal of improving coordination and the management of the operation of surveillance.
