The Cameroonian government plans to establish a National Animal Seed Production Center in the Adamawa region by 2025. The goal is to produce 500 doses of bovine semen and 300 embryos annually, aiming to inseminate over 200000 cows to boost national milk production. This government strategy aims to bridge the national production deficit. In 2024, Cameroon produced 131,000 tons of milk, which is not always sufficient to meet national demand.According to the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Cameroon still heavily relies on imports to meet its dairy production needs. Therefore, the government's initiative aims to strengthen the import substitution plan, promoting local production and reducing dependence on imports. This strategy is part of the National Development Strategy 2020-2030, which aims to structurally transform the national economy. To achieve this, the government is relying on the implementation of a plan spanning from 2025 to 2030, aiming to increase production to over 1 million tons per year. According to stakeholders, this plan is expected to cost over 300 billion CFA francs.
