The mayor informs the public that the Olembé multimodal platform has commercial spaces, including shops, counters, warehouses, and a 3,000 square meter open area for other types of installations, capable of accommodating over 1,500 traders. The mayor's decision aims to organize commercial activities in Yaounde and utilize the Olembé multimodal complex, but the traders' reluctance to move suggests potential challenges or concerns about the new location.
According to the Cameroon Real Estate and Development Agency (Creda), the concessionaire of the infrastructure, travel agencies are reluctant to pay their rent, citing the exorbitant cost, despite a reduction from 800,000 FCFA to 650,000 FCFA for large agencies and from 600,000 FCFA to 350,000 FCFA for small agencies, already agreed upon by the city mayor. The mayor of Yaounde has given traders operating on the aforementioned axis until Saturday, June 28, to vacate the premises. " Failure to comply within the prescribed deadline will result in the spaces they currently occupy illegally being cleared by public force," specifies the communiqué from Luc Messi Atangana. The city mayor's office and Creda are struggling to attract and retain tenants for the Olembé multimodal platform, with transporters unwilling to pay more than 250 FCFA per load, which is insufficient to justify the massive investment.
