According to a statement released on August 20 by Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, the Minister of Water and Energy is tasked with sending an official notification letter to the winning bidder within 10 days, outlining the practical modalities for negotiating the terms of the partnership contract. Before the Ghanaian consortium Sunon-China Energy, the Cameroonian government had initially turned to the Eranove group, an independent electricity and water producer controlled by the investment fund Emerging Capital Partners (57%). The two parties had even signed a memorandum of understanding on April 22, 2014. The partnership between Eranove and Cameroon did not materialize for undisclosed reasons. It was after this failure that the government turned to the Sunon-China Energy consortium. Nevertheless, there is no guarantee that a definitive agreement will be reached for this project, valued at 176 billion CFA francs, under a public-private partnership  model. The next steps include:

signing of project contracts, conducting technical and environmental studies, financial structuring and closing, construction of the power plant, gas plant, and connection pipelines. After these steps, commissioning could be scheduled in approximately four years, likely around 2029. The project was first announced by the Cameroonian government in 2014
