Gabon : Public debt reaches 700.9 billion CFA francs in the first quarter of 2025.

As of March 31, 2025, the cumulative public debt service stood at 700.9 billion CFA francs, according to data from the Statistical Bulletin on Debt published by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Debt, and Participation in charge of fighting high cost of living.

This amount is composed of 332.2 billion CFA francs for external debt and 368.7 billion CFA francs for domestic debt. Compared to the first quarter of 2024, the public debt service as of March 2025 recorded a global increase of 321.4 billion CFA francs. This significant increase results from a substantial rise in both external and domestic debt service, up 140.3% and 52.8%, respectively.Furthermore, the document consulted by Economie also reveals that during the period under review, cumulative payments stood at 697.6 billion CFA francs, including 38.6 billion CFA francs for prior maturities and 659.0 billion CFA francs for current maturities. Payments on current maturities include 290.2 billion CFA francs for external debt and 368.7 billion CFA francs for domestic debt. These cumulative payments represent 83.7% and 16.3% of total principal and interest payments, respectively. As of March 2025, the drawdowns on external and domestic financing amounted to 714.5 billion CFA francs, representing an increase of 465.3 billion CFA francs compared to the previous year. External disbursements totaled 378.0 billion CFA francs, including 18.4 billion CFA francs for project loans and 359.6 billion CFA francs for international obligations. The project loans were mainly allocated to the following sectors and projects:buildings and Public Works, education and Vocational Training , Water and Electricity , Transport. Domestic drawdowns, for their part, amount to 336.6 billion CFA francs and consist of: Treasury Bills (O.T.A)  286.6 billion CFA francs, issued on the CEMAC Public Securities Market with Free Subscription and Bank facilities : 50.0 billion CFA francs.
