It appears that 8.7 billion CFA francs were spent on subsidizing petroleum products. The breakdown of this amount is as follows: 6.5 billion for fuel subsidies and 2.24 billion for butane gas.Down 11.2% month-on-month, this amount represents the second-lowest level of subsidy granted by the Gabonese state in this segment since the beginning of 2024.The lowest being that of June 2024, where it stood at 8.68 billion CFA francs. This decline can be justified by the global budget allocated to this expenditure item, which has been exceeded since the eighth month of the year.
Indeed, out of the seventy-five billion CFA francs (CFA 75 Billion) allocated by the government to support the pump prices of petroleum products for the 2024 financial year.By August 2024, the country had already consumed 88% of this envelope.
To date, the budget has already been exceeded by 20,4 billion CFA francs, representing a consumption rate of 127,2% . This budget, already increased by 66% compared to the 29,9 billion CFA francs in 2023, is evolving in the opposite direction compared to other countries in the Cemac zone.
