Customs : Disputes Indicators on the Rise

This is the main observation made with satisfaction by the commissioners gathered this July 1 2025 at the Customs General Directorate's conference room, during the 205th session of the Dispute Case Approval Commission. The deliberations were presided over by Mr. FONGOD Edwin NUVAGA, General Manager of Customs.

More than 500 dispute cases were registered and processed during the period from June 5 to June 30, 2025.compromised or evaded duties amount to 2,144,071,944 CFA francs, up 62.6% from the previous session and fines amount to 3,220,006,541 CFA francs, up 139.5% from the previous session.

Regarding the perfomances , the central services of the Customs General Directorate contributed significantly to the dispute cases, accounting for: 77.94% of compromised or evaded duties, 84.8% of fines and 25.13% of the total number of cases. Compared to the fifth session of 2024, the commissioners noted an increase in all dispute indicators:compromised or evaded duties: +241% (1,494,093,234 CFA francs),fines  +355% (2,512,291,556 CFA francs)and number of cases: +34.7% (206 cases)

The following Customs sectors contributed to the dispute cases:

- Littoral 1: 249,673,153 CFA francs in compromised duties and 248,742,000 CFA francs in fines, Sud 2: 111,895,734 CFA francs in compromised duties and 130,647,000 CFA francs in fines,the most common infractions were:

smuggling (159 cases),false declaration of value (157 cases)and importation without declaration (101 cases). The infractions generating the highest amounts in terms of compromised or evaded duties were:non-execution of commitments/false declaration of goods/importation without declaration/diversion of privileged destination (383,924,237 CFA francs),violation of prohibition measures/non-execution of commitments/exportation without declaration (282,155,672 CFA francs)

The Director General of Customs congratulated his collaborators on their good performance and encouraged them to continue fighting against fraud and smuggling.
