According to observers, the strength of India's imports, as the world's second-largest cotton consumer after China, could bring a breath of optimism to a declining market.India may import 3 million bales during the current marketing year ending September 30, compared to 1.52 million bales imported a year ago, the Cotton Association of India (CAI) said in a statement. Between October and February, 2.2 million bales of foreign cotton were landed at Indian ports, according to CAI estimates. India's cotton production for the current year is expected to decline by 10% from the previous year to 29.53 million bales, while demand is expected to rise slightly to 31.5 million bales, the association said.
