As of early January 2025, the company will have a fourteen-month deadline to complete the construction of lot number three of this energy access expansion project in the country. The initial phase will focus on building a 34.9 kilovolt electricity evacuation substation, followed by the construction of a 30-megawatt photovoltaic park and, finally, the installation of a 60-megawatt battery storage system on the 90 kilovolt loop in N'Djamena.Backed by World Bank financing through an IDA grant of 175 billion CFA francs and SNE (National Electricity Power Company)funding of approximately 30 billion CFA francs, this project, valued at around 246.8 billion CFA francs, aims to boost access to electricity and clean cooking solutions through electrification, including grid extension, mini-grids, solar home systems, improved stoves, and sustainable natural resource management. With an electricity access rate of 6.4%, Chad has one of the lowest rates globally, far below the Sub-Saharan African average of 48%. To address this, the Chadian government launched an emergency electricity access plan in 2020, targeting an access rate of 53% by 2030.
