CEMAC : Malabo Integrates AFC

Dernière mise à jours il y'a 1 mois

Equatorial Guinea is now the 47th member country of the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), marking a significant expansion of the pan-African financial institution on the continent. This membership, which follows that of the Central African Republic earlier this year, strengthens the AFC's presence at the heart of Central Africa. For Malabo, integrating this corporation opens the way to financial resources, specialized project engineering, and technical expertise essential for the realization of its national development program.

Recognized for its high hydrocarbon revenues, Equatorial Guinea is actively engaged in diversifying its economic fabric. This transformation is guided by the "Horizon 2035" plan, which places particular emphasis on building cutting-edge infrastructure, particularly in energy, telecommunications, and industrialization.

Equatorial Guinea's Minister of Finance, Ivan Bacale Ebe Molina, welcomed this membership as a fundamental step for development. He specified that the AFC is expected to play a decisive role in structuring "bankable" projects—that is, projects capable of attracting private investment, creating added value, and accelerating the country's economic transformation. The objective is clear: to utilize the institution's expertise to develop modern energy, logistics, and industrial infrastructure.

The President and CEO of the AFC, Samaila Zubairu, hailed Malabo's integration, acknowledging the country's willingness to implement an "ambitious program" aimed at building world-class infrastructure. The AFC commits to actively mobilizing capital and collaborating with public and private stakeholders on key initiatives in renewable energy, transport, and logistics.

Having already invested over $17 billion on the continent, the AFC, with this new membership, strengthens its footprint in Central Africa. Its members now include the majority of CEMAC countries and beyond, including Cameroon, Gabon, Chad, the Central African Republic, the DRC, São Tomé and Príncipe, Burundi, and Angola.

As a member state, Equatorial Guinea can now benefit from the full range of the AFC's sophisticated instruments. This includes services ranging from project preparation to access to capital and debt, as well as risk mitigation solutions. These instruments are of paramount importance in a context where the sub-region collectively seeks to bridge its deficit in essential infrastructure and stimulate industrialization. Equatorial Guinea's accession concludes a particularly active year for the institution, which confirms its central role in financing African infrastructure development and its ability to direct more international capital towards the continent's economies.
