The strategy is part of the government's efforts to make the diaspora a key partner for Cameroon's development. According to the Ministry, the diaspora plays a vital role in fostering economic development through financial investments, transfer of technology and expertise, and business creation.Another crucial aspect of this strategy is the establishment of a *Database* to integrate different diaspora communities. This database will help map the skills, expertise, and interests of Cameroonians living abroad, enabling the government to better leverage their contributions. The ultimate goal is to strengthen the involvement of the diaspora in Cameroon's socioeconomic development. By doing so, the government hopes to tap into the vast potential of its diaspora community, which is estimated to be around 6 million people worldwide. This initiative is part of the Cameroonian government's broader effort to make the diaspora a key partner for the country's development. By fostering a stronger connection with its diaspora community, Cameroon can benefit from their skills, expertise, and investments, ultimately driving economic growth and development. The Cameroonian government, in collaboration with the Ministry of External Relations (Minrex) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), has launched a project to strengthen the engagement of the Cameroonian diaspora in the country's socio-economic development. The project, titled "National Strategy for Mobilizing the Diaspora for the Socio-Economic Development of Cameroon," is a two-year initiative (February 2025 - January 2027) funded by the IOM Development Fund to the tune of $300,000, as well as supported by another project financed by the European Union worth 10 million euros. The Cameroonian diaspora, comprising approximately 6 million individuals scattered across the five continents, plays a vital role in the country's economy through remittances, local investments, and promoting Cameroon's image abroad. However, despite its importance, the mobilization of financial resources from this community remains limited, with remittances totaling $603 million in 2024, representing 1.1% of GDP.This project aims to address this situation by developing a national strategy to maximize the impact of diaspora contributions to Cameroon's sustainable and inclusive development. It will also enable the mapping of diaspora members' skills, creation of a directory of expatriate entrepreneurs and investors, and better understanding of the profiles of Cameroonians living abroad. This initiative is part of Cameroon's National Development Strategy 2030 (SND30), which identifies the diaspora as a crucial lever for its financing
