The International Organization of Vine and Wine announced a drop in global wine production for 2024 on November 29. According to the organization, this represents a 2% decline compared to the already poor 2023 offer, which was 13% lower than the average of the last decade. The impacts of climate change are accumulating, negatively affecting vine and wine production. Globally, the organization also highlights the decline in global wine demand. Wine consumption has fallen by more than 2% compared to 2023. This decline is explained by rising prices linked to increased production and distribution costs. In Europe, the leading production zone, the harvest is expected to be more than 10% below the five-year average, which would mark the lowest level in over 20 years. According to some experts, the African continent could emerge as an interesting growth relay for the global wine industry in the coming years. The drink is experiencing a resurgence of interest in several African countries, such as Ivory Coast which is actually the largest African importer of wine, with over 72 tons worth $64 million in 2023.
