Supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) through the FISH4ACP project, this plan aims to boost shrimp production and exports while promoting social and environmental sustainability. Shrimp, Cameroon's main maritime export product, is caught at around 10,200 tonnes per year, with 4,200 tonnes coming from industrial fishing and over 6,000 tonnes from artisanal fishing. Between January and October 2021, 102.48 tonnes of shrimp were exported to Malaysia, generating revenue ranging from $1.6 million (approximately 976 million FCFA) to $4.6 million (approximately 2.8 billion FCFA), according to the Minepia. The development of the shrimp fishery management plan is a central issue in the upgrading strategy of the shrimp fishery value chain, validated in 2022 under the Fish4ACP project." This value chain concerns four species of shrimp: the pink shrimp, the prawn, the grey shrimp (or Guinea shrimp), and the tiger shrimp. The update of the management plan comes in a context where Cameroon is strengthening its arsenal to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, under pressure from the European Union (EU).In 2024, Cameroon adopted a law aimed at regulating subsidies in the maritime fishing sector. According to the FAO, this regulation and associated management plans aim to ensure a balance between the biological potential of stocks and fishing capacities, while maximizing the net socio-economic benefits derived from shrimp exploitation
