The equipment was supplied by Bonatrans Group A.S, a global leader in railway components . For an envelope of more than CFA 1 billion, These new wheels represent a key step in improving the safety, reliability, and efficiency of its rolling stock. The company( Bonatrans Group A.S ) ensures that these wheels will enable the continuation of the preventive maintenance program, while reducing technical downtime and increasing the availability of freight wagons and locomotives. This investment in new wheels is expected to have a positive impact on Camrail's operations, enhancing the overall performance and productivity of its railway network.The Cameroon Railways Company (Camrail), the sole concessionaire of the railway network in Cameroon, revealed in a recent statement that it invests "nearly 12 billion CFA francs every year in rail transport.This significant annual investment underscores Camrail's commitment to maintaining and improving the country's railway infrastructure. In addition to mobility solutions, Camrail contribution to facilitating port clearances and corridor competitiveness, and contribute in stabilizing hydrocarbon prices, the Cameroonian railway contributes to evacuating significant volumes of goods destined for export, mainly logs and sawn timber, cotton fiber, sesame, and gum arabic, with significant volumes coming from Chad and the Central African Republic. These export operations constitute important sources of foreign exchange earnings.Over 156,000 tonnes of flour and cereals were transported in 2024.In Cameroon, the rail sector generated revenue of 49.7 billion CFA francs (approximately $76.4 million USD) in 2023. This performance represents an increase of 7.4 billion CFA francs compared to 2022, when it was 42.2 billion CFA francs, marking a year-on-year growth of 14.9%
