Market : Domestic Gas Usage Records a Spectacular Surge
Dernière mise à jours il y'a 22 heuresLiquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) now dictates its law in the kitchens and factories of Cameroon. As the year 2026 opens with imperatives of energy sovereignty, figures consolidated by the Ministry of Finance reveal a profound transformation in national consumption: between the first and second quarters of the 2025 fiscal year, the volumes released for consumption jumped by 72.6%, rising from 43,947 tons to 75,871 tons.

This surge in "blue gas," far from being a passing phenomenon, outlines a Cameroonian economy increasingly dependent on this resource, the availability of which has become the barometer of social stability and industrial continuity in the country’s major urban centers.
A structural analysis of this growth highlights a striking paradox: the boom in consumption is occurring against a backdrop of declining local production. Indeed, during the second quarter of 2025, national LPG production fell by 18%, hampered by a slowdown in extractive activities at the National Hydrocarbons Corporation (SNH). To bridge this deficit and satisfy the market's insatiable appetite, Cameroon had to aggressively activate the import lever, which increased by over 30% to reach 122,707 tons in the first half of 2025. This external dependence, though managed, underscores the urgency of strengthening strategic storage capacities to secure a total supply that has already increased by 25.5% overall.
Beyond households, which remain the primary users, Cameroonian industry has emerged as the new driver of this demand. Numerous companies now rely on domestic gas to stabilize their production tools in the face of energy uncertainties. To preserve purchasing power against this growing pressure, the State continues to play its role as a financial shield. Data published on December 22, 2025, in Yaoundé is unequivocal: the Hydrocarbons Price Stabilization Fund (CSPH) injected 36.9 billion FCFA in subsidies as of September 30, 2025. At the start of this year 2026, the maintenance of this public support remains the guarantor of an inclusive energy transition, allowing LPG to remain the most accessible energy source for millions of Cameroonians.
