Food Insecurity: Over 1.5 million People Could Be Affected By Mid-2025.

These figures represent an increase of 4.7% compared to the same period in 2023.

On December 16, 2024, the European Commission's Civil Protection and European Humanitarian Aid Operations reported that the Government of Cameroon announced a worrying food insecurity situation in the country.According to the European Commission's Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations, over 1.5 million people will face food insecurity between June and August 2025, during the lean season. The regions affected by the security crisis, namely the Far North, East, North-West and South-West, host the majority of people facing food insecurity.The commission added that the Far North region has over 1 million people who are expected to face food insecurity in 2025.An alarming situation attributed to the unprecedented floods of 2024 in the region, as well as increased conflict-induced violence, rising food prices, and climate-related issues.
