Dernière mise à jours il y'a 2 heures

The time has come to review American diplomacy in Yaoundé. This Monday, January 12, 2026, the Minister of External Relations, H.E. Mbella Mbella, received H.E. Christopher John Lamora, Ambassador of the United States to Cameroon, for a farewell audience, marking the end of a mission dedicated to consolidating achievements.

Beyond protocol customs, this meeting served to commend the personal involvement of the diplomat in preserving peace and security—indispensable pillars for the fluidity of exchanges between the two nations. As Washington readjusts its priorities on the continent, the departure of Christopher John Lamora leaves the memory of a dense cooperation where political dialogue successfully maintained a constructive course despite regional challenges.

On the economic front, Ambassador Lamora's tenure coincides with an assertive desire to diversify trade flows, reaching far beyond the energy sector alone. The United States remains one of Cameroon's partners, driven by initiatives such as AGOA (African Growth and Opportunity Act), despite recurring debates over eligibility criteria. In 2026, the focus was placed on supporting local SMEs and attracting direct investment in infrastructure and the digital economy. This cooperation dynamic seeks to balance trade by encouraging the export of processed agricultural products to the American market, while simultaneously benefiting from transatlantic technological expertise for the modernization of the national industrial fabric.

The strengthening of bilateral relations, emphasized insistently by Minister Mbella Mbella, now paves the way for a new era of partnership. The wish expressed for Christopher John Lamora's successor is clear: to maintain this trajectory of excellence while exploring new sources of mutual growth. Security, a non-negotiable condition for economic attractiveness, will remain at the heart of discussions; however, the next chapter of this alliance will undoubtedly be played out on the field of shared prosperity. In wishing the outgoing diplomat full success, Yaoundé reaffirms its position as a partner in Central Africa, ready to deepen its ties with the world's leading power.
