Cooperation ICIEC : expresses its commitment to the construction of the Yaounde- Douala highway

The Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC) has expressed its commitment to supporting the construction of the Yaounde-Douala highway, a major infrastructure project in Cameroon

This commitment was expressed during an audience granted on March 17, 2025, by the Minister of Economy, Planning, and Regional Development (MINEPAT), Alamine OUSMANE MEY, to a joint delegation from Standard Chartered Bank (United Kingdom) and ICIEC, on a due diligence visit to Cameroon.The ICIEC's commitment is a significant boost to the project, which aims to improve the transportation network between Yaounde and Douala. The project is expected to have a positive impact on the economy and the lives of the people in the region.The construction of the Yaounde-Douala highway is a major infrastructure project in Cameroon, with a total cost of approximately 880 billion FCFA (around $1.4 billion USD).The project is being implemented in two phases, with the first phase already completed. The second phase, which is currently underway, involves the construction of a 141.1 km section of the highway, from Bibodi to Douala.The ICIEC's involvement in the construction of the Yaoundé-Douala highway (Phase 2) marks a significant step forward in the development of Cameroon's key infrastructure. It also reflects the Cameroonian government's determination to ensure the success of major structural projects through strong strategic partnerships.With this new support, Cameroon is pursuing its ambition to modernize its road network and strengthen its economic attractiveness, opening up new investment opportunities for the years to come.Led by Raphael FOFANA of ICIEC and Mustafa SAJJAD of Standard Chartered Bank, this mission, which takes place from March 17 to 18, 2025, is part of the internal approval procedures of the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit. Its main objective is to evaluate the financial and technical aspects of the project with a view to granting insurance coverage for the financing of the works.Indeed, ICIEC, as a multilateral credit insurance company, plans to cover the risks related to the financing of this strategic infrastructure, as well as other major road projects in Cameroon.The ICIEC's involvement in the construction of the Yaoundé-Douala highway (Phase 2) marks a significant step forward in the development of Cameroon's key infrastructure. It also reflects the Cameroonian government's determination to ensure the success of major structural projects through strong strategic partnerships.With this new support, Cameroon is pursuing its ambition to modernize its road network and strengthen its economic attractiveness, opening up new investment opportunities for the years to come
