Cameroon-Japan : Towards new partnerships

Cameroon is participating in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9). With Japan, cooperation spans areas such as agriculture, education, humanitarian aid. The two countries aim to strengthen this collaboration through new funding that Cameroon could secure in Japan

Japan's operations in Cameroon are valued at $646.56 million as of 2022. The Asian country has significant investments in agriculture, particularly through initiatives such as the Irrigated and Rainfed Rice Development Project through Value Chain Strengthening . Technical cooperation in the agricultural sector also involves the cassava value chain, through the Cassava Value Chain Improvement Project for Small-Scale Producers. This initiative aims to add value to the product and its derivatives, while strengthening the capacities of the Institute of Agricultural Research for Development .Through the Japan International Cooperation Agency , Japan is also interested in the fisheries sector. Large-scale projects have been carried out to this end. Nearly 7 billion FCFA were invested in the Youpwe landing stage and fish market in Douala, and 2 billion FCFA for the Kribi Community Center for Artisanal Fishing .Japan is also involved in the infrastructure sector in Cameroon. Its presence is evident in the Electricity Transmission and Distribution Network Reinforcement and Expansion Project (Preretd), which supported the construction of electricity distribution facilities. the Yaoundé-Brazzaville corridor, particularly the Mintom-Lélé section. Many other interventions are part of this cooperation. This cooperation highlights Japan's commitment to supporting Cameroon's infrastructure development , agricultural sector and economic growth. TICAD 9 could lead to new partnerships if the country succeeds in convincing Japanese investors. Batchenga-Lena road development project and the development of 

the Yaoundé-Brazzaville corridor, particularly the Mintom-Lélé section. Many other interventions are part of this cooperation. This cooperation highlights Japan's commitment to supporting Cameroon's infrastructure development , agricultural sector and economic growth. TICAD 9 could lead to new partnerships if the country succeeds in convincing Japanese investors
