This forecast is part of a regional trend where Sub-Saharan Africa is expected to experience growth of 3.8% in 2024 and 4.1% in 2025, according to the World Bank. The Cameroonian government is counting on a growth rate of four percent following the 3.8 percent observed during the year 2025. This planned growth in Gross Domestic Product would be supported by the performance of oil activity.
The growth rate of non-oil Gross Domestic Product is projected to be 4.3% in 2025, and to average 4.8% over the period 2026-2027.Growth will be driven by the secondary sector, which includes industrial activities, construction, water and electricity activities. The secondary sector is expected to show an increase of around 4.9% excluding oil in 2025, representing a slight increase compared to 2024, where according to the same document, this sector experienced growth of 3.3% compared to 2.3% in 2023. This increase is driven by the commissioning of new production units and the expansion of production capacities of several existing units. The projected increase would be the largest achieved by the industrial sector since the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the National Institute of Statistics, the secondary sector grew from 1.4% in 2020 to 3.2% in 2021, 3.3% in 2022, 2.3% in 2023, and 3.3% in 2024The primary sector, which includes agricultural, fishing, forestry, hunting and livestock activities, as well as aquaculture, is also expected to experience an upward trend in its activities in 2025.This sector is expected to experience a 3.6% increase in 2025, following a 3.2% increase in 2024.
