This inflation is mainly driven by the increase in food prices and transportation costs, largely due to the rise in fuel prices at the pump.According to the National Institute of Statistics, in November 2024, household consumer prices recorded a slight increase of 0.1%compared to the previous month, following a 0.3% increase observed in October 2024.This trend is mainly due to the increase in transportation costs (+0.3%), housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuel prices, as well as clothing and footwear prices, and restaurant and hotel costs. However, this overall increase was offset by a decline in food prices, which fell by 0.3 percent. This decline is attributed to better availability of products such as vegetables, plantains, and tubers in markets in November 2024.The National Institute of Statistics specifies that on an annual basis, inflation remained stable at 4.5% in November 2024. Although this stability may seem reassuring, the inflation rate remains well above the community standard of 3 %in the CEMAC zone .The Cameroonian government remains optimistic about inflation in 2025, expecting a downward trend, according to the Prime Minister.
