This decrease is driven by the evolution of the international cocoa market, characterized by falling prices and increasing production. The global cocoa market is dynamic, with prices influenced by factors like climate, supply and demand, and economic conditions in major producing countries. These conditions were the main factors behind the surge in cocoa prices during the 2023/2024 season, which damaged over 35% of Ivory Coast and Ghanaian production due to various diseases affecting the beans. This situation led to a market imbalance.
According to the World Bank's forecasts, which anticipated a 13% decline in global prices in 2025, the price of cocoa has fallen by 34.4%, from $12,636 per ton in December 2024 to $8,285 per ton on July 11, 2025, according to Trading Economics data. The latest report from the International Cocoa Organization on the cocoa market as of June 2025 indicates a gradual return to pre-surge levels in terms of prices and traded volumes. This shift is driven by the resurgence of cocoa activities in the world's largest producers, Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana. The selling prices of Cameroonian cocoa have fallen below the average price displayed during the same period in the previous season (5,000 FCFA/kg). This could have an impact on cocoa export earnings for the current season, despite a projected increase in production ,+6.7% according to the BEAC. During the 2023/2024 season, Cameroon exported 185,613 tons of cocoa beans out of a total production of 266,725 tons.
