This provision, effective as of January 1, 2025, applies exclusively to products holding a certificate issued by the relevant technical ministry, attesting to their compliance with anti-deforestation standards, specifies the ministerial circular.Since January 1, 2025, 20% of the value of products loaded onto a ship for the export of cocoa beans, rubber, and certified zero-deforestation timber is exempt from customs duties. In other words, products with proof that their production did not cause deforestation are eligible for this exemption. This means that the applicable customs duty rate for export will only be calculated on 80% of the value of these products, thereby reducing costs for exporters.Through this measure, the aim is to combat deforestation in cocoa cultivation, rubber production, and forestry by encouraging operators to preserve the environment.Upon analysis, this measure prepares Cameroon to secure exports of the concerned products to Europe, where products placed on the market or exported must justify zero-deforestation certification.
