Water : Yaounde Becomes the African Capital of Sanitation in February 2026

Dernière mise à jours il y'a 1 mois

The Yaounde Conference Centre is preparing to break away from lukewarm speeches to dive into the flow of radical solutions. From February 9 to 13, 2026, Cameroon will not merely lend its infrastructure to the 23rd International Congress and Exhibition of the African Water and Sanitation Association (AfWASA); it will be its strategic pivot. Under the impetus of Minister of water and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba and Blaise Moussa, Camwater's General Manager and current President of AfWASA, the Cameroonian capital is establishing itself as the center of gravity for over 3,000 delegates from 50 countries.

Far from a simple corporate meeting, this edition, titled "Water and Sanitation for All: Strong Actions for Africa," marks a departure: the time for promises is over; the era of concrete engineering and sovereign hydro-diplomacy finally begins under the skies of Yaoundé.

The roadmap for this continental summit is organized around six primary axes, ranging from integrated resource management to technological innovation and hybrid financing. The proceedings, which will officially begin on February 9, 2026, with a solemn reception, will highlight the urgency of achieving Sustainable Development Goal No. 6. This year's significant innovation remains the "Start-up Forum," a disruptive space where African youth will present solutions for digital network management and decentralized wastewater treatment. For Cameroon, this congress is also an opportunity to showcase the recent construction of 200 community-managed standpipes, a model of local access that will be presented to technical and financial partners during the technical sessions on February 10 and 11.

Beyond the scientific panels, the International Exhibition will transform the Palais des Congrès into a technological showcase where operators from 166 countries will exchange ideas on the energetic and agronomic recovery of fecal sludge. The stakes are significant: it is a matter of mobilizing the private sector and strengthening partnerships to bridge the African infrastructural gap. The closing ceremony, scheduled for February 13, will be marked by the presentation of the AfWASA Innovation Awards, celebrating best practices in climate resilience. By hosting this event, Yaoundé confirms its status as a diplomatic hub and demonstrates that universal access to clean water is no longer a distant mirage, but an industrial and political project in full acceleration at the heart of Central Africa.
