According to the report 'Africa Market Outlook for Solar PV 2025-2028 published in March 2025 by The Global Solar Council  Africa is expected to record a 42% increase in new solar installations in 2025 compared to 2024. This growth is largely driven by the realization of major previously delayed projects. Key driver countries include Algeria, which plans several tenders representing 800 MW, Morocco, Ghana, and Mozambique.Africa is poised for a notable surge in solar energy development in 2025, as several countries strive to redefine the continent's energy map in response to ongoing electricity access challenges.South Africa and Egypt will remain the continental solar leaders, with the gap between the two nations expected to narrow significantly. The report mentions that countries such as Botswana and Mauritius are expected to make significant contributions, with over 100 MW of additional capacity each, thanks to several projects currently under construction. Zambia, which will be a major contributor, is counting on three solar power plants totaling 180 MW to achieve its ambitious goal of integrating 30% of renewable energies (excluding hydroelectricity) into its energy mix by 2030. forecasts that Sub-Saharan Africa, excluding South Africa, could become the main installation region in 2025. This dynamic could even be sustained for several years, regularly surpassing South Africa. However, a predicted decline from 2028 onwards suggests a lack of market visibility and energy planning, a crucial element for attracting investors. This acceleration of solar projects reflects a sustainable dynamic, opening up new economic prospects for the continent, promoting increased energy independence and a significant reduction in carbon emissions in the years to come, even though the solar potential is far from being optimally exploited. The acceleration of solar projects underscores a sustainable momentum, unlocking new economic opportunities for the continent, fostering greater energy independence, and achieving substantial reductions in carbon emissions in the coming years, despite the vast untapped solar potential
