Production : Extractive and Chemical Industries Drive Industrial Prices Downward
Dernière mise à jours il y'a 1 heuresThe Cameroonian productive sector is entering a phase of price cooling. At the close of the third quarter of 2025, the Industrial Producer Price Index (IPPI) showed a decline of 1% compared to the previous quarter. On an annual basis, the contraction is even more pronounced, with a 3% drop compared to the same period in 2024.

This downward trajectory, driven by a bearish correlation between pivotal segments, suggests a lasting easing of upstream costs. According to the principle of transmission, this relaxation is likely to ripple through to retail prices by the end of the fiscal year, following a lag associated with inventory cycles.
The extractive sector stands out as the primary driver of this decline, recording a 2.6% correction over the quarter. Year-on-year, the retreat reached as much as 20%, a figure reflecting the volatility of global raw material prices. This mechanical reduction in primary input costs alleviates pressure across the entire value chain. Simultaneously, environmental industries also contributed to the trend with a 1.1% withdrawal, a sign of increased optimization in resource management costs.
On its part, the manufacturing industry demonstrated relative stability with a marginal decrease of 0.4%. However, certain branches showed sharper inflections: the manufacture of mineral materials fell by 1.6%, while the chemical, pharmaceutical, and plastics cluster retreated by 1.2%. This movement, particularly visible in the plastics and cosmetics sectors, suggests a mitigation of global logistical tensions or a decline in the cost of chemical derivatives. Such a scenario is likely to support final domestic demand by eventually fostering an improvement in household purchasing power.
