The French fund Meridiam, specializing in the development, financing, and management of long-term public infrastructure projects, is interested in the 47 km bypass road project under development in Douala. Other financial partners are also showing interest. Among them is the Imaad group, an investment bank specializing in mobilizing and managing investment funds. The strategy adopted by the CUD relies on involving partners capable of raising financing from Emirati and local investors who have already been identified.Discussions are currently underway between these investors, the Cameroonian state, and the CUD to finalize the financial structuring, accompanying measures, and specific terms of the project. In July 2019, the Cameroonian government, through the Ministry of Public Works, carried out development studies for the Douala bypass road, including the construction of a third bridge over the Wouri River. This ambitious project is part of the City's Emergency Plan, developed in March 2022, and aligns with the objectives of the National Development Strategy 2030 (SND30).The total cost of the works, initially estimated in 2017, is estimated at 410 billion FCFA.This new infrastructure aims to improve traffic flow, particularly for goods transportation, in order to enhance the competitiveness of the logistics chain in Douala. It will also contribute to reducing waiting times when crossing the Wouri River, as well as costs and travel time.
