Dernière mise à jours il y'a 11 mois

On February 10, 2025, cocoa producers in Abong-Mbang, a commune in the East Region of Cameroon, sold 60 tons of cocoa beans at a price of 5,035 FCFA per kilogram, generating total revenues of over 300 million FCFA.

This transaction was made possible through Ofi Cameroun, one of the main players in the cocoa sector, which now accounts for over 20% of Cameroon's total cocoa bean exports. The sale was supervised by local public authorities and the National Office of Cocoa and Coffee (ONCC), as part of a group sale operation, a mechanism introduced to help producers better organize their marketing efforts. The sale price obtained in Abong-Mbang is slightly higher than the one in January 2025, when producers in Biakoa, in the Central Region, sold their cocoa at 5,000 FCFA/kg during a similar operation. However, despite this slight increase in prices observed during the 2024-2025 campaign, they remain lower than those recorded during the previous campaign, which officially took place from August 1, 2023, to July 15, 2024. During this period, the kilogram of cocoa beans reached record prices of over 6,000 FCFA/kg, an unprecedented level globally. This price surge during the 2023-2024 campaign enabled Cameroon to generate total FOB value revenues of 488.8 billion FCFA, an increase of 220 billion FCFA compared to the previous year, according to ONCC figures. However, despite this decline compared to the record year, current prices remain favorable for producers, contributing to improved income during the current campaign. In Cameroon, the liberalization of the cocoa market has played a crucial role in this dynamic. For several years, the country has seen a multiplication of commercial actors, which has strengthened competition and allowed for higher prices for producers. The Cameroonian government, since 2019, has instituted official authorization for group sales of cocoa, relying on reference prices published by the ONCC, which oversees the quality and monitoring of exports. This system allows producers to sell their cocoa through their groups, negotiating directly with multinationals or local processors.
