Kikot Dam 500 MW : Project expected to be delivered in 2033.
Dernière mise à jours il y'a 5 moisAccording to the 2026-2028 Medium-Term Economic and Budgetary Programming Document construction work on the Kikot dam, with a production capacity of 500 MW, is set to begin in 2027. The commissioning of this energy infrastructure is planned for 2033 according to the document prepared by the Ministry of Finance.

The Kikot-Mbebe hydroelectric project, developed by the State of Cameroon and the EDF Group, aims to reinforce Cameroon's energy infrastructure with a 500 MW dam on the Sanaga River.The commissioning of the Kikot dam will enable Cameroon to increase its installed capacity to 2,719 MW. According to the government, this installed capacity has indeed increased from 1,529 MW in 2020 to 2,219 MW in 2025 with the commissioning of the Nachtigal dam (420 MW),marking significant progress towards the target of the National Development Strategy 2020-2030 (5,000 MW).
According to the the French company EDF which is leading the Kikot project, suggest that the cost of this dam is expected to exceed approximately over 700 billion FCFA Funding is expected to be provided by the World Bank, through its private sector financing arm IFC, as well as other financial partners.
In the long term, the Kikot dam will become not only the largest electricity generating plant in Cameroon, surpassing Nachtigal, but also the largest low-carbon infrastructure ever built in the sub-region of Central Africa.
