Infrastructure Douala is planning a 4th bridge over the Wouri River and a new bypass connecting the East and West entrances

A project to build a 10 km bypass, connecting the East and West entrances of Douala via a 4th bridge over the Wouri River, is underway. According to the Douala Urban Community (CUD), the project owner, four sections have been identified for the project's implementation

The first section, 6.7 km long, connects the Western entrance to the banks of the Wouri River. It includes a 2x2 lane structuring road and a cable-stayed bridge.The second section, 6.35 km long, connects the Maetur roundabout to Bonamoussadi and the Beedi high-tension junction. It will be equipped with two 7-meter lanes, a variable central median of 7 to 25 meters, two 3-meter sidewalks, and two 2-meter emergency stopping lanes.The third section, 1.15 km long, connects the Beedi high-tension junction to the PK10 market. It will include two 7-meter lanes, a 7-meter central median, two 3-meter sidewalks, and two 2-meter emergency stopping lanes.Finally, the fourth section connects the Eastern entrance (at the Borne 10 intersection) to the PK10 market. It will be designed with 2x2 lanes, an emergency stopping zone, sidewalks, lateral drains, and a dedicated lane for mass public transportationAccording to authorized sources, discussions are underway between the CUD, the Cameroonian government via the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (Minhdu), and the World Bank to include sections 2 and 3 in the "Sustainable Cities and Land Management" project, currently under preparation. This inclusion could allow the World Bank to finance the works, estimated at 17 billion FCFA in 2021. Meanwhile, fundraising efforts continue for sections 1 and 4. This project falls within the framework of the urban modernization program of the National Development Strategy 2030 (SND30). It aims to contribute to the structural transformation of Cameroon's economic capital and its metropolitan area, by strengthening its competitiveness, reducing its polarization, and decongesting the city
