Economy: Government - Private Sector Dialogue For The 2025 Budget Preparation In Cameroon

This concertation between the government and the private sector carried essentially on the preliminary 2025 finance bill draft under development. In a letter addressed on August 23 ,2024 , business leaders had until August 26, 2024 to forward to the chamber of commerce , the challenges and difficulties faced during the application of the frnance bill 2024 , and to enable them to propose some reforms in terms of increasing tax bases , securing revenue and improving taxation by 2025 . To remind that the private sector is one of the major contributors of the state economy that is by assisting the government in the financing of major and minor projects especially in the domain of agricultural, health and entrepreneurship , employing over 30% of the population. This is therefore an important moment for both parties to put inplace strategies to pursue the country's emergency goal and objectives fixed in the national development strategy 2020-2030. Among the points highlighted during this concertation, the main issues raised was on the pavement of taxes on imported telephones . According to the Cameroon's Custom , morethan 4billion phone are shipped into the country with no taxes imposed for the Importation, causing the government to lose approximately every year the amount of CFA 12 billion .This issue was raised in 2019 but was highly contested by actors in the domain and the population.overall bringing up this measure of tax payment on imported phones is to seek solutions that will benefit the government, actors in the domain of phones Importation and phones users.
