The   project initiated by the Head of State in 2022, remains uncertain despite significant progress. Initially scheduled for 2024 under the Ministry of Economy's 2024-2026 Priority Investment Program(PIP) , the project has yet to take off.

Cameroon's Transport Minister, Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe, stated that the government has secured funding for the rehabilitation of these three airports. However, the project's implementation remains uncertain due to unspecified obstacles. The rehabilitation project for these airports is crucial for Cameroon's economic development. Upgrading these airport infrastructures will enhance safety, capacity, and efficiency in the country's air transport. The execution of the rehabilitation and modernization project for the airports of Kribi, Bertoua, and Tiko was supposed to start in 2024 and be completed in 2028.According to the priority investment project (PIP 2024-2026), many developments are planned for each of these airports. In Bertoua, it will involve completing the work started by the ADC in 2022 (reprofiling of the runway). In Tiko, it will be the upgrading of the airport class (from C to B). The Tiko airport, which underwent a first rehabilitation attempt in 2016 during the Women's CAN, needs an upgrade, according to the government. The goal is to move from class C to B, while Kribi needs a complete overhaul. The rehabilitation works of the Kribi airport,  are indeed part of Cameroon's integrated multi-modal transport strategy. This project aims to provide each region with at least one operational airport infrastructure, boosting domestic air travel and increasing the country's attractiveness to investors. The aeronautical authority, under the supervision of the Minister of Transport, is responsible for managing the project. The goal is to create a modern and efficient airport system that can support the growth of the domestic market and increase competition. The Kribi airport project is part of a larger effort to develop Cameroon's transportation infrastructure. Once completed, the Kribi airport will have a modern terminal, a control tower, and improved runway and parking facilities. This will not only enhance the travel experience but also increase the airport's capacity to handle more flights and passengers.

The rehabilitation works of the airports of Bertoua, Kribi and Tiko are part of the integrated multimodal transport strategy in Cameroon. The aeronautical authority, under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport, is responsible for ensuring the project management of the planned works. Beyond the ambition of allowing each region to have at least one operational airport infrastructure, these will be served by air, "thanks to, on the one hand, greater attractiveness and greater opening of the domestic market to competition
